Procrastination + Job Search

katyallen64

I work with many clients who are very eager to find their next job. Perhaps they have recently been laid off or they are unhappy in their current work environment and are ready for a change.

And yet… these same clients often find anything else to do rather than sit down to update their resume, research companies, or network on LinkedIn. Maybe you can relate!

This is really common, and really… normal.

Not many people wake up in the morning excited about job searching.

In my coaching practice, I’ve heard a variety of reasons why clients avoid this work:

  • Lack of confidence in writing about their experiences and achievements on a resume.

  • Feeling overwhelmed by job boards and AI.

  • Existential angst over their life purpose, unsure how to job search without answering the bigger questions first. (I’m very familiar with this one!)

  • Feeling dejected from repeated rejections, making it hard to stay motivated.

  • Feeling utterly exhausted from their current (or last) job, leaving little energy to commit to the job search process.

All of these feelings are valid and make so much sense.

This is where partnering with a coach can make a big difference. Career coaches provide accountability, motivation, and practical support to help you overcome resistance and move toward your goals.

If you’re navigating a career transition and could use some support, the coaches at Chicago Career Consulting would be honored to help. You’ve got this!
