As I conclude my series on coaching and yoga, here is another quality of a “transformational space” according to Stephen Cope in his book, “Yoga and the Quest for the True Self”:
Imperfect Perfection: The pressure to be perfect is lifted (what a relief!). A “good-enough” coach or teacher is all that’s needed to foster your internal growth and change.
There’s no need to exhaust yourself trying to find the “perfect” teacher or coach. Such a person would be difficult to find anyway! The job of a teacher or coach is simply to support you in the internal development that is already happening within you. They should not claim to have all the answers.
If anyone claims to have the “perfect” way or solution for you, this is likely a sign of delusion and grandiosity. They may have a compelling sales pitch, but I recommend steering clear of those folks.
And for all the coaches and teachers who sometimes wonder if they are making a difference, trust that showing up and being present with your student or coachee is the most important part of the process.
They are already primed and ready for growth and change – you’re simply there to help witness and facilitate the next steps of their journey.
Whether you are a coach or coachee, a teacher or student, may you find the support you need in your journey of self-discovery.
